Harmony in the Home with Flower Essences

Creating a harmonious home doesn't mean everyone is calm, happy and getting along all the time. Real families have big emotions, busy days, changing needs and plenty of moments where things feel a little chaotic. Children have their own emotional worlds. Teenagers are navigating enormous changes. Parents are juggling work, relationships, responsibilities and everything in between.

Flower essences can be a simple, gentle tool to incorporate into daily life, offering a way to support emotional wellbeing through the different seasons and experiences that come along.

What are flower essences?

Flower essences are liquid tinctures made using the energetic imprint of flowers. Unlike essential oils, they don't contain the physical or aromatic properties of the plant. Traditionally, flower essences are used to support emotional and energetic wellbeing, with different flowers associated with different emotional themes.

You might choose an essence around feelings such as overwhelm, uncertainty, self-doubt, change, emotional resilience or difficulty letting go. Rather than thinking of an essence as something that fixes an emotion, they can be viewed as a gentle form of support while someone is moving through an experience.

How can they support family life?

Every person in a household is different and that means the kind of support they need can be different too.

Take my own household as an example. I'm a mum to two teenagers, and like most families, we've had our share of big emotions, change and challenging seasons.

When my 12-year-old started high school, they experienced some anxiety and uncertainty around the transition and making new friends. I chose a Waratah essence to support them through those overwhelming feelings and incorporated it into their daily routine. Within 2 weeks, I noticed they were more like themselves again. More settled, engaged and comfortable in their new environment.

What I love about using flower essences with my own kids is that it doesn't have to become a big thing. There's no complicated process or lengthy ritual. It's simply another little tool we can reach for when one of us is moving through something difficult.

And, of course, every child is different. What feels supportive for one person won't necessarily be the right fit for another. Flower essences can be selected around the individual's emotional experience, rather than simply being chosen for their age.

This makes them a wonderfully flexible addition to family wellbeing routines.

How do you use flower essences?

Using flower essences is wonderfully simple. A typical way to use them is 7 drops under the tongue, morning and night, for at least two weeks. You can continue using them for longer depending on what you're moving through and the depth or intensity of your emotional experience.

If taking them directly isn't your thing, you can also add your drops to your favourite beverage, water, tea, juice or whatever you enjoy drinking throughout the day.

The key is consistency. Flower essences are intended to be used as a support rather than a cure. They're not about making an emotion disappear or fixing what's wrong. Instead, they can be a gentle companion while you move through an experience, giving you a simple way to support your emotional wellbeing as you navigate what's happening in your life.

And because they're so easy to incorporate, they can become part of something you already do — your morning drink, your evening wind-down or simply a moment to pause and check in with yourself.

Flower essences at Geelong Wellness Collective

I have a selection of Luminar Elixir flower essences available at Geelong Wellness Collective, with different blends created around a range of emotional themes.

They're available to explore in the studio or online, whether you're looking for something for yourself, your teenager or another member of your family. You don't need to know exactly what you're looking for before you come in. You can read through the blends, explore the different themes and see what feels relevant to you.

Because creating more harmony at home doesn't mean creating a perfect home.

Sometimes it's simply about having a few more tools to help each person feel supported as they navigate their own experience.
